Phillies hit 'rock' bottom vs. Rockies

Fear not, Phillies fans.

It could be worse.

In fact, it has been.

On this date in 1964 - yes, that year - the Phils lost their seventh straight game in the process of one of the all-time epic collapses. This was the loss that actually dropped them out of the first-place position they had held most of the summer.

As we all know, the Phils were 6 1/2 games up with 12 to play. Then the bottom fell out.

Last night in Colorado, the bottom might have fallen out on this much less successful Phillies squad.

How bad were the Phillies?

The first 8 Phils to face Rockies starter German Marquez.

Final Score: Rockies 14, Phillies 0.

And it probably wasn't that close.

Just as their '64 counterparts, the Phils have now lost seven straight. But this team has long since fallen out of contention.

Last night it appeared they had fallen out of interest as well. Still hard to imagine that this club at one point was 15 games over .500 and in first place in the National League East.

The Phils have been outscored in this series, 34-4.

Despite all this, GM Matt Klentak indicated that manager Gabe Kapler and his staff would be back, while saying the lineup needed "significant changes."

Ya think?
