Ridding ourselves of the memory of September 1964

It remains a shroud that is only whispered about by the Phillies Phaithful.

1964.

You remember.

The Phils were 6 1/2 games up with 12 to play.

We all know how that ended.

It started with Chico Ruiz stealing home.

It ended with me sitting at our kitchen table, putting my head down and watching the tears hit the table as my father tried to comfort me.

The Phils had blown the lead, and the pennant, and create a nitch in the sports Hall of Shame that still stings to this day.

It remains one of the colossal meltdowns in sports lore.

So how do we finally rid ourselves of the curse of '64?

How about we reverse it?

Here's the deal. The Phils beat the Mets. They are now 5 1/2 games behind the Atlanta Braves with 12 games to play.

But the Phillies will play the Braves in seven of those games, starting this weekend.

Maybe it's time once and for all to rid ourselves of those memories of September 1964.

I've seen it happen before.

So if the Phils win a game this weekend by having someone steal home, you'll know where you heard it first.
