A Supreme case of She said, He said

She said.

He said.

And the nation watched.

It was a Supreme showdown. Literally.

So what have we learned? We remain a nation divided.

Big surprise there, right?

I found Christine Blasey Ford credible in her heartfelt description of a sexual assault she says was inflicted on her by a drunken Brett Kavanaugh in high school.

Kavanaugh was just as passionate in his vociferous defense, ranting not against Dr. Ford, but against what he referred to as some kind of political conspiracy to block his nomination to the Supreme Court. He called the proceed "a national disgrace."

I'm not so sure about that.

I am sure of this.

What we witnessed yesterday will not go away anytime soon.

This is America in 2018.

Bitterly divided.

He said.

She said.

Red.

Blue.

Conservative.

Liberal.

Democrat.

Republican.

That's all that really matters. Not Ford. Not Kavanaugh. But power, raw unmitigated power.

Republicans push to nudge the nation's high court further to the right goes back decades. Kavanaugh is the final piece of that masterpiece, salvaged when Senate Majority Leader literally hijacked the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland made by President Obama.

The events of the past week are McConnell's just desserts.

The nation spent hours transfixed by what was playing out in front of them on TV.

It had a little bit of everything: Power, politics and sex.

Almost three decades ago, the nation witnessed a similar spectacle when Anita Hill made accusations of sexual harassment against then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.

Many vowed never to let such a display ever happen again.

Who are they kidding?

This is America in 2018.

This morning Republicans on the Judiciary Committee intend to vote on Kavanaugh's nomination.

If you were expecting something else, you haven't been paying attention.
