The Flyers showed lots of 'Gritty' last night.
Unfortunately, the team did not display much grit.
The Orange and Black rolled officially introduced their wildly popular new mascot, "Gritty," for the home opener.
So far, so good.
Then the game started.
The Flyers got blown out by the Sharks, falling 8-2.
And it wasn't that close.
The Flyers gave up four unanswered goals in the first period. The Sharks poured 23 shots on goal, while the Flyers managed just 11.
Can Gritty play in goal?
Columnist Jack McCaffery says the display did not sit well with the Flyers faithful, Gritty or no Gritty.
