A very special procession along Chester Road

We don't get many traffic jams down here on South Chester Road in Swarthmore.

Or Springfield.

Or wherever the hell our office is located.

OK, OK, it's a Swarthmore Post Office.

But technically - and geographically - it's in Springfield. Don't ask me how this little island down here became part of a township it does not share any border with, but it does.

At any rate, traffic came to a halt yesterday afternoon - and for a very good reason.

Traffic moved aside as hundreds of EMS vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks snaked along Route 320 (Chester Road). It was ironic that the funeral procession of longtime Crozer Chester Medical Center EMS Chief Bob Reeder would go right past our office.

The procession started in Brookhaven, then when by Crozer in Upland, then made its way to Route 320 as it made its way to SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Marple.

I actually walked outside at one point to take in some of the procession.

What I really wanted to do was hand a copy of yesterday's Daily Times to every car in that procession.

There are some days when you really feel good about this job, and what we do here every day.

Yesterday, with our front page salute and two-page spread on Chef Reeder done masterfully by staff writer Rose Quinn, was one of those days.

It was our way of offering a final salute.

Rest well, Chief Reeder.
