Things just got worse for the Eagles

Things just got worse for the Eagles.

Carson Wentz now has one less weapon in his rapidly diminishing arsenal.

Running back Jay Ajayi is now likely gone for the season with a torn ACL. Where have you gone LeGarrette Blount? Oh, that's right, you're scoring touchdowns for the Lions.

The Birds have not yet been in sync on offense. They have yet to score more than 23 points in any of their games en route to this desultory 2-3 record.

And they don't have much time to mull things over, or consider a deal for disgruntled Steelers running back Leveon Bell. Instead they kick off their divisional play Thursday night against the Giants.

The good news? The Giants are even worse than the Eagles.

In fact, the entire NFC East is mediocre at best this year.

Last night the Redskins got blown out by the Saints as Drew Brees became the NFL's all-time leader in passing yardage.

The Redskins sit atop the NFC East heap with a less than sparkling 2-2 record.

The path to the playoffs for these four teams is going to come down to winning the lowly NFC East. And a 9-7 record just might do it. There is plenty of time for the Eagles to get this thing back on track.

Super Bowl?

That's just a memory at this point.
