Why I call it the 'Dreaded' Saturday Eagles Pick

I'm going to blame the Pennsylvania Legislature.

Why not, I blame them for just about everything else.

And what misfortune am I now laying at the feet of our duly elected representatives?

That would be the Eagles miserable start.

The Birds lost again yesterday, falling at home to the Minnesota Vikings. That drops them to a less than mediocre 2-3 on the year. Yes, that Super Bowl glow is now just a shroud there in the rear-view mirror.

But what does the Legislature have to do with all this?

Well, as you might realize, every Saturday here in The Heron's Nest, I pick that weekend's Eagles game. Last year I was on fire, going 13-4 and riding the Birds all the way to the Lombardi Trophy.

This year? Uh, not so hot.

In fact I am now sporting a perfect record.

A perfect 0-5, that is.

Now you know why I call it the "Dreaded" Saturday Eagles Pick.

I think this might be God's way of telling me to forget that latest gift from our friends in Harrisburg.

Yes, legal sports betting is coming to Pa. In fact, Harrah's just applied for a license, for the asking price of a mere $10 million. Parx Casino is set to open the first legal betting facility, probably by the holidays.

Where were they last year, when I was on fire.

For now, I think I'd better steer clear of plunking down any of my hard-earned money on the Birds.

For those of you licking your wounds, you won't have long to suffer.

The Eagles will head up the New Jersey Turnpike for a prime time affair vs. the Giants Thursday night.

Here's a tip, Doug. Try running the ball.

You're going to get Carson Wentz killed.

And you can take that prediction to the bank.

Or just treat it for what it's worth.

This year? Not a whole lot.
