A Blue Wave rolls over Delco

That Blue Wave they were expecting in Washington, D.C.?

It rolled over Delco instead.

In a historic night, Democrats racked up huge victories here in the county.

Yes, everyone expected Mary Gay Scanlon to beat Pearl Kim in that election for the newly constructed 5th District Congressional seat. The state Supreme Court pretty much took care of that, when they blew up the old 7th, with its gerrymandered advantage for the GOP. But nobody saw the depth of what went down last night.

Consider it a changing of the guard.

The numbers don't lie.

This is becoming a Democratic county. The Dems have the registration numbers. If they get their people to the polls, they will continue to win. It was a very bad night for the Springfield GOP. They lost both a state Senate seat and their state House vote.

Tom McGarrigle is out, beaten by Swarthmore Mayor Tim Kearney for the 26th District state Sensate seat. McGarrigle delivered his concession early, the first surprise of the night.

Then came Jamie Santora. The incumbent Republican in the 163rd District fell to Democrat Mike Zabel.

It didn't stop there. Back in Springfield, the numbers went against Alex Charlton, who was beaten in teh 165th House race by Jenn O'Mara. In the 162nd House races, where Republican Rep. Nick Miccarelli was vacating his seat, Democratic labor leader Dave Delloso was victorious over former county sheriff Mary Hopper.

Who would have thought one of the only Republicans to survive would be the guy who was under the most heat in this race. That would be Rep. Chris Quinn out in the 168th. He appears to have eked out a win over Democrat Kristin Seale, despite being beaten up over his stance on the Mariner East 2 pipeline project.

And of course, there is reliable Steve Barrar, who won another term for the GOP in the 160th District.

It was a great night to be a Democrat, and a very long night to be in the Delco GOP.

I'm not sure where Andy Reilly goes from here.

We'll try to find out today.

They are saying it was more of a "ripple" in D.C., with Dems taking back the House, while Republicans increased their hold in the Senate. That was not the case here in Delco.

This was a tidal wave.

And it just crashed all over the Delco GOP.
