The long-awaited risk assessment study ordered by Delaware County Council on the controversial Mariner East 2 pipeline project is in.
You can get all the details here.
Bottom line? The study suggests the public is not in much more danger from an accident involving the pipeline than they are from a lot of other everyday events such as a car accident, house fire or even a fall down the steps.
Why do I get the feeling that is not going to be especially well-received by pipeline opponents who for years now have been fighting to keep the pipeline from going online.
A group of opponents testified at a hearing before the state Public Utility Commission yesterday. That hearing will continue today as the groups urge the PUC to shut down the project.
A ruling is not expected in that matter for weeks.
I think the ruling on the county's risk assessment study will come in a lot sooner.
The council is planning a public hearing to discuss the study.
That should be interesting.
