The Fab Four

Just call them the Fab Four.

Southeastern Pennsylvania bucked decades of male domination in our congressional delegation by electing four women to the U.S. House. Only seven women have been elected to the House in Pa. history, and of those three of them filled seats vacated by the death of their husbands. The Democratic women swept congressional races in the Philly suburbs.

Leading the charge was Delco's own Mary Gay Scanlon. The Democrat easily turned back Republican Pearl Kim to capture the newly constructed 5th Congressional seat that covers all of Delaware County.

Scanlon also won the special election to fill the remaining weeks of Republican Pat Meehan's 7th District seat. That will give her seniority over her fellow women winners - and every other incoming new member of Congress.

Elsewhere across the region, Chrissy Houlahan rolled in Chester County's 6th District over the GOP's Greg McCauley. She likewise is the first woman from Chester County to go to Congress.

Two Democratic women won in Montgomery County, with Madeleine Dean taking the 4th District, and Susan Wild victorious in the 7th. Somewhere, Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky is smiling
