The din surrounding the citizen unease when it comes to Sunoco's Mariner East 2 pipeline is getting louder.
But this time it's not just residents or local officials who are raising their voices.
Now educators are questioning the latest Sunoco plan.
In case you have been living in a cave (which might not be all that bad an idea in the event something goes wrong with this pipeline), Sunoco recently announced that completion of their 20-inch pipeline that will ferry liquid gases such as ethane, butane and propane across Pennsylvania to a facility in Marcus Hook is being delayed again.
That does not mean the pipeline will not be coming online "shortly."
In fact, Sunoco is hoping to do just that. And how will they accomplish that feat.v
Easy, in the areas where the 20-inch pipe has gaps and has not yet been installed, the company plans to substitute one of their older, 12-inch pipes.
Sunoco says the 70-year-old pipe has been tested and is up to the task.
A lot of other people are not so sure.
You can now count three local school superintendents among that group.
The leaders of Rose Tree Media, West Chester and Downingtown schools - all of whom have facilities very close to the pipeline path - have fired off a letter to the state Public Utility Commission asking them to investigate this latest plan by Sunoco.
So far, no word from the state.
It's on our editorial page.
