The one game the Eagles could not lose

This is the one game the Eagles could not lose.

And it's only partly because it was to the hated Dallas Cowboys.

Remember, Dallas played last Monday night, a desultory loss to the Titans.

Meanwhile, the Eagles were coming off the bye, after their jaunt to London and a win over the Jaguars that seemed to right their ship at 4-4.

Not exactly.

The Birds lost their third straight game at Lincoln Financial Field last night, falling to the Cowboys, 27-20.

Remember, this is the Cowboys team that seemed to be coming apart at the seams after that Monday night loss. Even TV analyst and former Cowboys hero Troy Aikman was calling for a total overhaul of the team.

Instead, they fell back on what works for them. They fed star running back Ezekiel Elliott and let him run the ball down the Eagles' throats.

Elliott, the one weapon the Eagles needed to control, ran amok, carrying the ball 19 times for 151 yards.

Last year's magic is now just a memory.

This team bonded in their underdog status after Carson Wentz went down late in the season and rode that underdog status to a Super Bowl title with Nick Foles at the helm.

Wentz is now back; the team is not.

This is just not the same team, it does not have the same attitude that last year's team had.

For his part, Wentz once again had the opportunity to pull this game out with a season-defining end-of-the-game drive.

He failed to do it once again.

The Birds' defense is a shambles.

It gets worse from here.

The Birds have to go on the road and face perhaps the best team in the NFL, Drew Brees and the Saints next Sunday.

The Eagles are now 4-5, two full games behind the Redskins, who looked thoroughly mediocre in somehow beating the Bucs - a team that beat the Eagles earlier this season.

Yes, the Eagles still have two games left vs. the Redskins.

Anyone confident this team has the ability to take two from the 'Skins?

Me neither.

Last year is over.

Super? This team just isn't very good.
