The stuff hit the fan at Delaware County Council yesterday.
In a manner of speaking.
Which is a lot nicer than some of the conditions reported at the county's George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Concord.
Prison Warden Dave Byrne appeared at the council meeting to offer a report on recent toilet problems.
Basically, the prison toilets had to be shut down two different times.
Council called on prison official to conduct a complete review of the situation and report back to them.
Of course, all of this comes as council is facing a deadline - and a fair amount of public pressure - in terms of whether they want to renews the deal with Geo Corp., the private company that operates the county facility. Their deal expires at the end of the year.
Democratic Councilman Kevin Madden visited the prison over the weekend to check out the conditions himself.
"I get that this is not Club Med," Madden said. "We're not talking about a resort. But there's a certain level that needs to be maintained ... of sanitation and this was not met.
This drew a response from Council Chairman Republican John McBlain, who wondered if Madden had not picked the spot in the prison with the worst conditions to further the argument that the county should end its relationship with Geo.
Byrne is the guy in the middle.
He's trying to do a very tough job while juggling competing interesting in how the prison is run.
You know what they say about stuff running downhill.
This week is running down on Byrne.
You can get all the details here.
