Welcome to the Year of the Woman.
It arrived Tuesday night in Washington, D.C.
But it was also noted in our state capital in Harrisburg.
In D.C., Mary Gay Scanlon took the oath of office and was sworn in as a member of Congress representing the 7th District.
That's correct, I said 7th.
Remember that Scanlon was running in two elections, both the regular election for the new 5th District, and also a special election to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Pat Meehan in the old 7th.
Scanlon will fill that spot for a couple of weeks, then take the oath again in January for a full two-year term as Delco's representative in the House of Representatives from the 5th District.
In Harrisburg, local state Rep. Joanna McClinton was making a little history of her own.
She becomes the first woman and first African American to be named Democratic caucus chairman.
We write about both these significant achievements on today's editorial page.
