A salute to Jillian's Angels

In Monday's print Letter From the Editor, I lamented the passing of a slew of Delco icons in recent weeks, and wondered if we were not losing our sense of community.

Then I read the great piece on "Jillian's Angels."

That would be Ridley Police Detective Jerry Scanlan Jr., along with his friends Jeff Tyler and Dan Emmerson.

Scanlan first met 5-year-old Jillian Massey a few years ago, and quickly became best friends with the little girl who was making it her mission - in addition to battling cancer - to bring Christmas joy to other sick kids.

Thus was born the Sassy Massey Toy Drive.

Jillian lost her battle with this particular virulent form of brain cancer.

But her mission lives on, through the good works of Scanlan and his fellow "angels."

All I can say is, Yes, Jillian, there is a Santa Claus. And angels, too.

We salute them on today's editorial page.
