RIP, Cliff Wilson

Cliff Wilson saw it long before I did.

In my many conversations with the longtime chairman of the Delaware County Democratic Party, he would assure me that he saw the demographic of the county changing, and it was moving in the Democrats' direction.

Cliff never really got to see the benefit of that trickle, which today has turned into a deluge.

Wilson routinely faces staggering uphill odds in jousting with the Republican Party in county races.

He faced a lopsided playing field when it comes to voter registration in favor of the GOP.

Today, of course, that field has been flipped. Democrats are not the majority party in the county, just as Cliff predicted.v They won both seats up for grabs on County Council, and also swept all three county row offices.

That's something that had not happened since the mid-'70s, and certainly not something Wilson ever saw, although he did see it coming.

When we opened up spots on DelcoTimes.com for citizens to write a blog, Cliff was one of the first to respond.

You can still read his writings here. It was titled, appropriately enough, Cliff's Notes.

Cliff Wilson died late last week. He would have turned 72 on Tuesday.

"He was a true giant in the Democratic Party and in Delaware County Democratic history," said David Landau, Cliff's successor as county Dem chairman.

He'll get no argument from me.

RIP, Cliff.
