Sealed with a kiss

Someone once said there is something to be said for longevity.

I certainly hope so. I've been doing this job now for nearly 20 years, part of my 36 years at the Daily Times.

I'm guessing Jim Gray feels the said way.

For three decades, he was the smiling face behind the counter at the Yeadon Post Office.

People like Jim Gray become part of our community.

They are the faces we see every day, part of the fiber that makes each town special.

For 32 years, Gray was a solo act manning the counter at the Yeadon Post Office.

He was the guy who greeted you when you stopped by buy stamps or mail a letter or Christmas card.

He would learn about his customers' lives, and their families.

He would share in families' happiest moments, and their sad times as well.

But not anymore.

After near four decades on the job, Gray will no longer be behind the counter at the Yeadon Post Office.

He retired recently.

We decided to profile a person who proved integral to the community.

Much like all those customers he served year after year, this one is "sealed with a kiss."

All the best, Jim.
