Something to celebrate for the Eagles?

Yes, I am still simmering about those two (only two?) egregious calls that went against the Eagles in their overtime loss to the Cowboys Sunday night.

The call that there was no discernible recovery on that fumble on the opening kickoff defies explanation. And just as bad was an offensive interference call on Dallas Goedert that negated a touchdown in the second half.

But it was something the Eagles did that had me throwing things at the TV.

No, it wasn't Doug Pedersons' suddenly less than "Big Balls" decision not to take that extra point off the board and go for two at the end of the game after a penalty on the extra point would have moved the attempt to the 1-yard line.

And it wasn't his play call on a crucial third-and-one for some reason to try a quarterback option, on which a lumbering Carson Wentz got stuffed.

It wasn't even the fact that the Eagles' offense again failed to show up in the second half.

What got my goat was something they did early in the second half.

After looking thoroughly wretched for the entire first half, in which they put up zero points, the Birds finally got on the board with 6:04 left in the third period on a 2-yard pass from Wentz to Alshon Jeffery to cut the Dallas lead to 9-6.

So, after such a desultory performance for more than half, what did the Eagles do?

Why celebrate, of course.

Yes, the Birds, including Wentz, immediately went into what appeared to be some kind of rehearsed celebration in which they all sat down in the end zone and appeared to watch the replay on the big board above the field.

Cute, huh?

You've done absolutely nothing for more than a half, finally score, but are still trailing in a crucial game, and you of course find time for one of these rehearsed, over-the-top celebrations.

There are lots of things that went wrong with the Eagles this year. Carson Wentz is not the same. Doug Pederson's play-calling and game plans leave a lot to be desired.

But I would offer that the Birds suddenly are full of themselves, and this ridiculous celebration when they were losing a crucial game is proof of it.

Don't get me wrong, I will always appreciate the fact that they won a Super Bowl last year. They gave us a parade. I just wish they'd spare us the celebrations.

Don't look now, but the Eagles actually might have something that is worth celebrating.

The Vikings lost again last night to the Seahawks on Monday Night Football.

That gives a little more life to the Birds' miniscule playoff hopes.

The Eagles need to win their last three - including next Sunday night against the Rams in L.A. Then they have home games against the Texans and wind up the regular season against the Redskins.

That would put them at 9-7. They still need some help from the sliding Vikings.

Do that, and then maybe they would have something worth celebrating.
