It's almost impossible to talk about the passing of the 41st president of the United States without lamenting where we are today.
It's real simple.
There was a time in this country when - even when we vehemently disagreed with a president's policies - there was a genuine respect for the man and the office.
Sadly, that no longer seems to be the case.
I don't doubt for a second that people will still argue about some of President George H.W. Bush's policies.
But no one can dispute his character.
"41" was a patriot and statesman who offered a lifetime of public service.
In short, he represented the very best of the "Greatest Generation."
Fittingly enough, he was the last president from that glorious time.
All they did was save the world.
Today we could use more of them to save us from ourselves.
It's on today's editorial page.
