The unanswered question swirling around Desper case: Why?

It is the one question that has remained unanswered since a deadly road-rage incident in Chester County burst into national headlines.

Why?

Why would David Desper, a Delaware County man, pull out a gun and fire at the car beside him as they tried to merge on a crowded Chester County road.

That gunshot snuffed out the life of Bianca Roberson, a promising recent Rustin High School grad who was just a few days away from embarking on her college career.

Instead, fatally struck by the bullet fired by Desper, her car veered off the road, down an embankment and into a tree.

Desper fled the scene, touching off a national manhunt for the man in the red pickup truck captured on surveillance video.

That trail eventually led to Delaware County, and the Trainer home where Desper lived.

Today Desper will learn his fate for the fatal shooting. He entered a plea deal back in September to a reduced charge of third-degree murder, as opposed to the first-degree murder charge he was initially charged with.

In sentencing memo filed by his lawyers this week ahead of sentencing, Desper offers a glimpse of what might have happened that day late June day in 2017.

He claims he never saw Roberson, did not know who was driving the car, and did not realize he had killed someone until he saw news reports later.

Of course the prosecution sees it a different way.

Today we likely hear from both Desper and the family members of Roberson, including her mother and father.
