Welcome to Dallas Week

Welcome to Dallas week.

That's the bottom line on the Eagles big win over the hurtin' Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.

That sigh you just heard was a massive exhale coming from the NFL front offices.

This is just what the NFL needed.

Eagles vs. Dallas, late in the season, with first place on the line in the NFC East.

Anything that will get the ugly Kareem Davis and the league's dubious handling of it off the sports pages.

The Eagles did a lot of things right and a few things wrong last night.

Bottom line is they won another game they had to have.

Carson Wentz showed he still has the kind of mobility to make him an elite quarterback, and the ability to throw a few balls that still leave you scratching your head.

Zach Ertz is on his way to re-writing the record book for NFL tight ends. Ertz hauled in another 9 balls last night, shattering Brian Westbrook's team season record of catches of 90. With 93 catches, Ertz now can set his sights on the NFL record of 103 held by Jason Witten.

Uh, yes, Witten also was a presence last night, providing the commentary on the ESPN telecast of the Monday night prime time affair. And it only took a blink of the eyes for Witten to resort to the oldest cliche in the Philadelphia sports book, bringing up the infamous booing Santa Claus incident. Really? Still?

Darren Sproles returned and bolted into the end zone on a scamper around left end.

The defense, aside from a stunning 90-yard gallop by Adrian Peterson early in the game, pretty much shut down the Redskins' offense. Of course, after Colt McCoy went down with a broken leg - yes, Washington has now lost two starting QBs to shattered bones in their legs - that left our old friend Mark Sanchez behind center for Washington. That went about as well as Eagles fans might expect.

All of that is only a prelude to something we have not seen in the past few years.

That would be an honest-to-goodness showdown with the Cowboys in Texas next Sunday.

Welcome to Dallas Week!
