Fake punt changed Birds' karma

Live by the trick play, die by the trick play.

No one in this town will ever forget 'Philly Philly,' the gadget play dialed up in the Super Bowl by Nick Foles and Doug Pederson that saw Foles catch a TD pass from tight end Trey Burton. It propelled the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl win. A year later, a trick play led in part to their downfall.

The Eagles had raced out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, then had another key stop as it appeared as if the Saints were starting to move the ball.

But the Saints were called for holding on the third down play in which they came up short. Doug Pederson did what most coaches would do in that situation. He declined the penalty to make the Saints punt.

But New Orleans coach Sean Payton had a little trickery of his own. He dialed up a fake punt and the Saints converted. Just like that, the karma seemed to change.

Sure, a lot of things happened after that play, but it set changed the momentum, and the Eagles never got it back.
