Dems the breaks, folks

I expect the phones to light up today with readers intent on delivering an old complaint.

There's the Daily Times once again showing its liberal bias. The newspaper leans left, tilts toward the Democrats and today's front page only proves it.

Yes, on today's front page we note the endorsements from Sunday night's endorsement meeting of the Delaware County Democratic Committee.

One thing my critics no doubt will not point out.

We did the exact same thing last week with the Republican endorsements.

If you walked outside yesterday, you might have realized there was a bit of other news blowing across the region.

Literally.

The wind was howling.

It was blamed for toppling two large trees onto houses.

We had pretty good photos of both incidents.

Either one easily could have served as our lead image on Page One.

Neither did.

I thought I owed the Democrats similar coverage to the way we handled the GOP endorsements last week.

The truth is there is nothing that actually compels me to do so. I simply could have said, hey, sorry, but there was other news going on yesterday. Tough luck.

Would that have been fair? Maybe not.

There is a lot up for grabs in November here in Delaware County. There is control of Delaware County Council. Fresh off sweeping both seats on the ballot in the last election, Democrats now are looking to take majority control of the five-member county ruling body.

There also will be a battle for district attorney, with Republicam Katayoun Copeland, who took over the post after Jack Whelan was elected to the county bench, seeking a full term. She will be opposed by Democrat Jack Stollsteimer, a longtime prosecutor. There also will be four open seats on the County Court of Common Pleas.

It's going to be a long haul. I no doubt expect there to be more than a few controversies along the way.

My aim, as usual, is to stay in the middle in this fray.

Starting with today's front page.
