A Turf War between Upper Darby schools, Clifton Heights

Call it a Turf War.

We did.

That was how we characterized the split between the Upper Darby School District and the residents of Clifton Heights over the district's plan to plop a new middle school on the borough's beloved athletic fields.

There's a lot going on here.

Clearly Upper Darby schools are bursting at the seams. The district needs new facilities.

Clifton Heights has some festering bad feelings since they lost their representative on the school board. They also believe the district is trying to wiggle its way out of an agreement they had to allow the borough to use the fields. They are home to many programs of local youth sports organizations.

All of this spilled out into the public during a contentious public hearing last week.

Now, it appears the school district is hearing the call for more communication with residents.

They are planning a series of community meetings to hear residents' concerns as well as explain their position.

We talk about it on today's editorial page.
