An appreciation of Nick Foles

We waited a lifetime.

And Nick Foles delivered the goods.

We have won exactly one Super Bowl in this town.

And we won it in large part because of Nick Foles.

And, of course, the Philly Special.

Now Nick Foles is moving on. He signed an $88 million deal to be the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Good for him.

But he will always remain in the hearts of Eagles' fans. And, apparently, Philly will remain in his as well.

And just to prove it, he penned a piece for the Players Tribune to express his feelings about his time in Philly.

Nick Foles gets it. Always did.

This mild-mannered, unassuming guy clearly understands the psyche of the Philly fan, which is never more at its passionate peak than on Sunday afternoons in the fall.

This is more than football. Foles understood that. Rooting for the Eagles, suffering through all those years of losses, of coming close but not sealing the deal, all of that led us to that glorious day in Minnesota.

As Foles put it, it's a "birthright."

Foles understands what it meant to all of us when the Eagles - with him at the helm - finally won. He will always hold a very special place in our hearts. We waited a lifetime. It was worth the wait.

He may be gone, but we'll always have Philly Special.
