A random slice of horror inside a Radnor Wawa

I still can't get past the randomness of it.

It's something that just about every one of us does every day.

We walk into a Wawa, head for the coffee bar, and pour ourselves a cup of Joe.

We even have a saying for it.

Gottahavva.

So I'm trying to grasp that with the notion of standing there in the Wawa and watching in horror as a man walks in with a rifle and guns down a woman standing inside the store.

It's every day life gone horrible wrong.

A young Wawa clerk took the stand yesterday in district court in Newtown and calmly detailed what happened when Brian Kennedy strode into the Wawa on Sugartown Road in Radnor just before 8:30 p.m. on March 28. He had a rifle in his hand. The clerk said Kennedy - looking "very angry and determined" - walked up to a woman and opened fire. Then he fled the store.

It happened in an instant.

The woman was Stephanie Miller, Brian Kennedy's ex-wife. They had been locked in a long, bitter divorce and subsequent custody dispute. They were supposed to meet at the Wawa to exchange custody of their son. Luckily, Kennedy did not bring their child with him. He did bring a rifle.

With deadly results.

Kennedy was held for trial on all charges.
