Abortion battle comes to Ridley

The heated abortion debate came to Delaware County over the weekend.

And in an ugly way.

Parishioners at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church on Fairview Road in Ridley arriving for Sunday services were greeted by graffiti that had been spray-painted on the church's front doors.

The message stated: "You do not have the right to decide how others live #prochoice."

The vandals spread the note across the full width of the entrance to the church.

In addition to the note "#ProChoice" was spray-painted on the rear of the church building.

Police are investigating and checking surveillance video to see if the vandals were captured on film. It is believed the vandals struck sometime Saturday night.

Parishioners immediately got work Sunday morning to remove the video.

The vandalism comes as the national debate on abortion is heating up, with several state Legislatures - including Alabama and Missouri - enacting restrictive abortion laws.

Some abortion foes are hoping one of the laws will make it to the Supreme Court and provide a possible springboard to overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling the made abortion legal in the U.S.
