George McCloskey should inspire us all to get involved

Yesterday I paid homage to a great Delaware Countian.

Not because George McCloskey was the longtime mayor of Norwood.

Because I considered him a friend.

Today, on our editorial page, I expand a bit on those thoughts.

The truth is, George McCloskey represents something that is increasingly sorely missing in today's society: Our community conscience. McCloskey was a throwback when people got involved, when people saw something that needed done in their communities, and promptly rolled up their sleeves and got it done.

He didn't go on his phone and vent on Twitter.

Take yesterday's elections, for instance.

Most of those eligible did something McCloskey would never consider: They sat it out.

Didn't exercise their most precious constitutional privilege, their right to a vote.

In short, McCloskey was an involved citizen.

We need a lot more like him.
