Why you should vote today

Ready! Set! Vote!

It's 7 a.m. and the polls are open. They will not close the doors until 8 p.m.

It's not likely you will find yourself standing in a line.

This is what is known as the Primary Election.

In Delaware County, voters will be nominating candidates for three positions on Delaware County Council, Court of Common Pleas Court judges, magisterial district judges, the district attorney's job, along with candidates for your local borough or township government and school board. If you're looking for sizzle, keep your eye on the ballot questions.

Three Delaware County towns - Aldan and Lansdowne boroughs, as well as Marple Township - are looking to change their decades long status as "dry" towns. Sure, they have state stores and beer distributors, but if you want to snag a six-pack in your local supermarket, or have a glass of wine with dinner, you were out of luck.

Voters today have the chance to change that.

In addition, voters in Middletown Township will be deciding whether to authorize their township council to buy a big chunk of land from Elwyn that includes the old Sleighton Farms tract.

Regardless of your motive, you should cast a ballot today.

If you don't you should at least have the decency not to complain about how little is getting done, or go on social media and vent a little snark.
