Turnout light for meeting on planned new school in Clifton

Call it Round One.

Upper Darby School District held the first of a planned series of meetings to lay out their formal plans to build a new middle school on athletic fields in Clifton Heights.

But turnout, surprisingly, was light, considering how bitter feelings in the borough are running over the district's plan to build on what many in Clifton consider "sacred ground."

The district sent letters inviting more than 200 residents to last night's meeting, but only eight attended.

Some raised the question of who did - and who did not - get the letter inviting them to the meeting.

Others stressed their belief that this is a "done deal," and the district is merely trying to get residents on board with the plan.

A second meeting is scheduled Thursday night for Clifton Heights residents.

We'll be there to let you know what happens.
