A salute to Jesse Hartnett

Jesse Hartnett no longer wears a badge and uniform.

That does not mean he has give up on the policeman's creed: To serve and protect.

Hartnett, the East Lansdowne native and Monsignor Bonner grad who was badly wounded in an ambush shooting while he sat in his Philadelphia police cruiser, continues to recover from his injuries.

But he's taking up a new challenge - riding in the annual bike ride to the shore to raise money for the families of fallen and injured police and first responders.

Good for him.

We offer a salute to Hartnett on today's editorial page.
