Forget the Eagles, this weekend belongs to Phils-Braves

This is going to sound like heresy, especially coming from me, the world's biggest Eagles fan.

Forget the Birds.

This weekend should belong to the Phillies.

They will kick of a three-game weekend set tonight at Citizens Bank Park against the first-place Atlanta Braves. The Phillies need to take at least two of three to make the rest of the summer schedule meaningful.

Right now they trail the Braves by 5 1/2 games. A sweep would put them right back in contention. Two of three would keep us interested. It would also put pressure on the front office to make a move at the trade deadline Wednesday night to add some arms to the Phils' wobbly starting rotation.

If they lose the series, it might be time to start wishing for a wild card.

Tonight it's up to Jake Arrieta to get the Phils off and running.

So put the Eagles on the back burner for the weekend. It's Training Camp, for God's sake.

Ask yourself this question.

Can you remember one important thing that came out of last year's camp. The only important thing that happens in the next month is the hope that no one gets hurt.

Call me in September.

Let's hope the Phillies are still playing meaningful games then, too.
