The host was not there, but Monsignor Joe Corley remains very much a presence looking after Darby Borough Police.
"Father Joe," as nearly everyone referred to him, passed away last week. In addition to serving as police chaplain, each year Corley would host a luncheon for borough officers in the school hall at Blessed Virgin Mary.
He did not expect to be there this year. He figured he would still be in the hospital recovering from his latest battle with cancer.
He didn't make it.
But he made sure that the luncheon went on.
That's the kind of guy Father Joe was.
And why he will be missed so much - not only by Darby Police, or the faithful of Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, but truly by everyone in Delaware County who ever met this genuinely good man.
