The cynic in me (yes, it's never far away) would say that perhaps the biggest accomplishment of the U.S. Women's Soccer team was making us care about soccer - men's or women's.
But the truth is this team is different. They have crossed over that threshold and into a different realm.
In part because of their outstanding play, in part because of their bombastic celebrations, and in part because they are unafraid to speak their mind and take a stand.
This morning they will take part in a tickertape parade down the Canyon of Heroes in New York City.
They earned every penny of it.
And speaking of pennies, it's about time to rectify one of their other beefs, the clear inequity that sees them paid far less than their male counterparts.
It's on today's editorial page.
