The Phillies and deadlines

It is one of those things that for years have been synonymous with newspapers.

Boxscores.

We call them - and a lot of other statistical sports information - agate.

For the past couple of weeks, our readers have been calling them something else.

Missing.

For a lot of reasons, we've had to shuffle out deadlines at our printing facility. The bottom line is that we were having trouble getting those precious boxscores into the newspaper.

Hell, the truth is most nights we did not even get the result of the game in, forcing readers to go online to learn the details from the game the night before.

Nothing aggravates our longtime, faithful print readers than when we tell them they must go online for something they traditionally got in print.

This week we are getting a bit of a reprieve from the harsh deadlines that should allow us to get those night games into print. So of course, the Phils and Tigers hook up in one of their longest games of the year. The Phils finally prevailed in 15 innings - well after midnight and long after even our new, later deadline to get the game into print.

You can get the details here.

The Phils and Tigers are right back on the field this afternoon for a matinee.

I think we'll be able to get that one in the paper.
