When you're Smyly

All together now, Phillies fans.

"When you're Smyly,

When you're Smyly,

the whole world smiles with you."

Maybe that should be the Phils' new jingle.

The Phillies got a second straight very strong outing from new acquisition Drew Smyly. The would-be Jamie Moyer used his slow and off-speed left-handed tosses to befuddle the Giants in a 4-2 Phils' win.

Smyly tossed seven shutout innings. How rare is that? No other Phillies starter not named Aaron Nola had done it since June 12. The win lifted the Phils into a tie for the second wild card spot in the NL.

The Giants had been hot coming into the series, but could not figure out Smyly.

The big question now is what - if anything - GM Matt Klentak will do as the trade deadline approaches at 4 p.m.

One more solid starter would put the Phillies in a very good position to capture a wild card spot.
