2 reasons to remember last night's preseason Eagles opener

It is the same comment I offer every year at in connection with the Eagles first preseason game.

After days of talk radio and media hype - and yes, that includes newspapers - the Birds will finally hit someone other than their teammates. So I always ask those foaming at the mouth the following question:

"Name me one thing you remember about last year's preseason?"

Of course, the asterisk to that question is the possibility that someone got hurt.

Last night's preseason opener vs. the Titans at the Linc will stand out for two reasons.

One was the aforermentioned injury bug. The Eagles lost backup QB Nate Sudfeld to a broken wrist. Tough break, literally. But can you imagine what we'd be like today if that had been Carson Wentz? Beat writer Bob Grotz chimes in on the wise decision by the Birds to sit out Wentz and a lot of other starters.

The other reason to remember last night's game is personal to me.

Brian Freeman was not there.

We lost Brian, a longtime co-worker and even longer Eagles fan and season ticket holder, about a month ago.

He and several other longtime fans were remembered with a moment of silence before last night's game.

Class.

RIP, Brian. I know you were looking down on the game and smiling.
