Another 'process' means end of line for refinery workers

Remember how much time we spent talking about 'The Process?'

The Sixers have nothing on the folks who run Philadelphia Energy Solutions.

After a massive explosion and fire that rocked the southwest Philly refinery - and the surrounding community - the company made clear its intention.

Their plan was to shut down the plant and lay off workers.

They filed for bankruptcy protection - their second trip to court seeking protection from creditors.

Workers got a reprieve when the company said immediate layoffs would be delayed for five weeks while the company worked to shut the plant down and prepare it for a possible sale.

That reprieve ran out this week.

The company refers to letting the workforce go as being 'processed.'

Workers have another way of describing it.

The end of a way of life.
