With the imposing Philadelphia skyline looming in the background, it's easy to overlook the tippy-top of Upper Darby Township.
Not today.
The Upper Darby skyline is distinctly different today.
A little less Tower-ing, you might say.
That's because the iconic spire perched on top of the legendary Tower Theater, a beacon for a generation of concert-going kids, is no more.
The town on top of the Tower was discovered to be in dangerously poor condition and was taken down.
You can read all the details here.
I keep thinking of perhaps one of the most famous series of nights in Tower history.
That would be the string of David Bowie shows that formed the backdrop for his 'David Live' album back in 1974 as part of the Diamond Dogs Tour.
The album cover noted 'David Bowie at the Tower Philadelphia,' even though we all know the Tower is not in Philadelphia, but in the heart of Upper Darby's 69th Street business center.
I think Bowie would be able to describe what so many of us are feeling at the absence of the familiar landmark:
Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes.
