The Phillies player - and latest target of the fans' wrath - has nothing on the great debate in Delaware County. which is all about the debates.
There was a time when the campaign season had the decency to wait until after Labor Day, allowing those of us who follow these things the luxury of the last few yawning days of summer.
Not anymore.
The problem is that the three Republicans and troika of Democrats seeking the three posts up for grabs on County Council are at odds over debates.
The Republicans put out a press release saying they wanted a series of five debates across the county.
They even recruited some guy named Phil Heron to be moderator of the first debate.
I agreed, but only under the proviso that the two sides work out all the logistics.
So much for that.
Democrats are complaining that the Republicans set up the debates without conferring with them about dates and other key items.
Democrats are complaining about some of the debates and so far have only agreed to one.
If this sounds at all odd to you, it does to me too. It used to be Democrats in this county used to beg the GOP for debates.
Now, with the numbers moving in their favor in terms of voter registration, it just seems weird to see Republicans begging for a series of debates and Democrats taking their good, old time in agreeing.
