All of a sudden, we're up to our necks in debates.
Must be political season.
First it was the County Council race.
After the GOP jumped the gun, announcing a series of five debates that came as news to the Democrats, the three sides got together and agreed on a series of three debates.
I will be the moderator for one of those, so you can pretty much expect both sides to complain about that.
But there is another key, high-profile race on the November ballot as well.
Democrat Jack Stollsteimer is challenging incumbent Republican District Attorney Katayoun Copeland to be the county's top law enforcer.
This one could be the toughest race on the November ballot.
You can make the argument that Copeland is now the face of the Republican Party in the county. She's clearly much more recognizable than any of the three GOP candidates for County Council.
Go ahead, name the three GOP council candidates? Thought so.
Of course, the same could be said for the trio of Dems looking for seats on council.
That's why this D.A. race is so important, aside from being one of the most important jobs in the courthouse.
Democrats are looking to continue their gains, after taking two County Council seats and sweeping all three row offices in the last county election.
Now they are looking to snag three more council seats up for grabs in November.
Yes, it's entirely possible that Delco could be looking at a 5-0 all Democratic County Council come November.
That's where the GOP has to be banking on Copeland.
She needs to drive voters to the polls.
But first she has to deal with Stollsteimer, a former federal prosecutor.
They are in the process of figuring out the details in terms of when and how many debates will be held, and the parameters.
We'll let you know when they get those things ironed out.
Just a reminder the first County Council debate is set for Oct. 10 at Villanova University.
