Raise your hand if this is pretty much the way you saw the DELCORA saga going down.
Yeah, me too.
A few months back we first reported that the county's wastewater agency was holding talks with giant public utility Aqua Pennsylvania about a possible merger or sale.
That came as news to their workers, as well as a lot of county politicians.
It had the feel of a done deal, even after several pols asked that the process be opened up, and at least one other utility came forward to say they'd also be interested in talking to DELCORA.
Yesterday the board of the Delaware County Water Quality Control Authority signed off on the deal.
DELCORA will be sold to Aqua for a stunning $276.5 million. It is not only Aqua's biggest acquisition ever, it's also the largest privatization of a public utility in state history.
For now, DELCORA says they have assurances that all jobs will be preserved, and rates will not go up for its 165,000 customers in 42 towns.
That likely will not quiet the discussion about the way the deal was handled.
