I'm revisiting the Hakim Laws story today.
Hakim who?
Obviously you are not a social media fan. Laws is the Eagles fan who happened to be in the right spot at the right time Sunday night, when he and a friend jumped into action when fire struck an apartment building in West Philly.
His buddy rushed inside and started rescuing children inside, literally throwing them out a window to Laws, who was catching them.
A TV news crew caught up with Laws, who explained his actions this way: "We was catching them, unlike Agholor ..."
Ouch!
If ever there was a perfect quote from a frustrated Philly sports fan, this was it.
Of course the quote went viral. Several national outlets picked it up.
Eventually word made its way to Agholor. But instead of venting, the Eagles wide receiver who has battled problems with dropping passes since he was drafted out of USC, came back with the perfect response.
He congratulated Laws for being a community hero and invited him and his family to a future home game.
I wrote about it in the blog yesterday, and today I have expanded on it on our editorial page.
It strikes me that this is about more than sports.
It tells us a lot about who we are, both as citizens, as passionate sports fans, and voracious consumers of social media.
Like pretty much everything else in life, there is good and bad out there on the internet.
This story proved it.
