Last week I wrote here in the blog about my hometown.
There is something special about growing up in a small town, where, kind of like the bar in 'Cheers,' everybody knows your name.
Take my word for it. That is not always a good thing.
In those small towns, there are some special men and women who become the glue of the town.
Men like Dr. Anthony Bering.
'Doc,' as everyone referred to him, turned 90 recently.
Which means he would have been 40 when he achieved one of his goals for our little town.
It was the first football team in the history of Oxford Area High School.
I should know. I was a member of that team.
It's easy to say it was just a football team. But, unless you lived there, and could feel the tension building in the town, you would not know that it was something else.
It was a rallying point, a way to bring the town together, when it very easily could have instead come apart.
And for that we can thank Dr. Anthony Bering.
It's in today's Letter From the Editor.
