The fire consuming Haverford

All eyes will be on Haverford Township tonight, when the township board of commissioners is expected for the first time to publicly address the conflagration surrounding the Bon Air Fire Company.

The board shut down the volunteer service last week after news broke that a member had tried to join a group some consider an extremist group.

The fire company, which has served the township for more than a century, fire back, saying their member broke off ties to the group after learning more about them, and that he had broken no law. The volunteer went so far as to offer his resignation, which the fire commpany rejected. That caused the township to step in and act to shut down service.

It's beginning to sound as if talks are ongoing to resolve the situation, which has split the community.

In the meantime, among those chiming in is our columnist Chris Freiend, who clearly believes the board not only mishandled the situation, but actually made thing worse.

You can read his take on the situation here.

The board will meet tonight at 7 at Havertown Township Hall. We'll be there to tell you what happens.
