Same old DeSean! Thank god for that

Same old DeSean Jackson.

Thank god for that.

Yes, I was grumbling under my breath when the Eagles wide receiver got in a dustup with a Redskins' defender. Jackson picked up a penalty on the play, leading to a Redskins score.

It was a reminder of why some weren't all that upset when Chip Kelly cut Jackson loose several years ago.

The Birds played a thoroughly miserable first half, looking every bit like a team that did not do a whole lot in the preseason.

Carson Wentz looked like a guy who did not take a single snap in those exhibition games.

Jackson and the Eagles offense was sputtering.

Coach Doug Pederson wasn't helping matters much with some curious play calls.

The Birds trailed 20-7 at halftime. It was enough to make me do something I rarely do. I shut off the TV, grabbed the radio, and retreated to the back yard to enjoy the remainder of a spectacular later summer afternoon.

Turns out I enjoyed the second half just as much, in large part because of DeSean Jackson.

Yes, he was very much the same DeSean, the deep threat this team has not had since he was sent packing by Kelly.

All Jackson did in his return to Philly was catch eight passes for 153 yards, including two long bombs of more than 50 yards for TDs.

Wentz, who looked rusty in the first half, was razor sharp in the second, rallying the Birds to an impressive 32-27 comeback victory.

Same old DeSean?

You bet!

You might say DeSean won this one for 'The Chipper.'
