It's crunch time for John Middleton.
The Phillies majority owner has a decision to make.
Will Gabe Kapler be back as his manager, after a disappointing 81-81 season?
For that matter, will team President Andy MacPhail and GM Matt Klentak keep their jobs as well. It was their vision - or lack of it - that thought the Phils had enough pitching to compete. They came up woefully short.
The regular season ended Sunday, and already ?? managers have been shown the door.
But their has been only silence from Middletown, who surfaced after the game to shake Kapler's hand in the Phils' dugout after the season finale, a 5-4 loss to the Marlins.
One man's opinion?
Let Kapler go. I've never been an analytics guy.
My vote to replace him?
How about a Delco guy? That would be the pride of Morton, none other than Mike Scioscia.
The guy certainly has a pedigree. He managed the Angels for 18 years, and led them to their only World Series championship in 2002. He's a two-time winner of the American League Manager of the Year Award.
He's got 1,000 wins to his credit as a manager, one of only 56 skippers to achieve that level.
And - did I mention? - he's a Delco guy. Scioscia grew up in Morton and starred at Springfield High.
