When did some rain become a crisis?

Remember when the weather was just ... well, the weather.

It was the last five minutes of the newscast. The expected high, overnight low, and general description of what it was supposed to be like - sunny, cloudy, hot warm. You get the idea.

That was then, this is now.

Weather now is big news. Or at least it is in the eyes of the folks on TV and radio.

It used to be just winter. Snow always creates headaches. Now it also creates ratings.

Then we got the cold. Of course that means the wind chill factor.

Now snow in summer? No problem. We have "real-feel" temperatures. Pay no attention to your thermometer, it's dangerously hot out there.

Yesterday we got some rain. That's OK, it's been very dry around here for weeks. We could use the rain.

But instead we got warnings of a "coastal bomb."

Really?

It rained. That happens from time to time.

It caused some problems on the roads, in part because it was pouring for the evening commute.

Today, it's the wind. It's going to be blustery. Yes, there is some debris on the roads. Lots of leaves and branches down. Some trash cans are getting tossed about.

But I don't think it's the end of the world.

Then again, I don't work in TV or radio.
