Words matter, just ask Zach Brown

Words are powerful things.

Believe me, I know. I deal with them all day long.

I think maybe Zach Brown might concur.

Who is Zach Brown? I guess you're not an Eagles fan.

Brown is a linebacker for the Eagles. Or at least he was.

The Birds signed him in the offseason from the Redskins, where he spent several years as a teammate of quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Of course, Cousins also moved on, and is now the quarterback of the Vikings.

Naturally, last week with the Eagles-Vikes showdown looming, writers went to Brown for his take on the game, especially his thoughts on Cousins, who would line up across the line of scrimmage from him.

That's when words got the better of Brown.

Brown zinged Cousins as "probably the weakest part" of the Vikings' offense. He said the idea was to shut down the Minnesota ground game and make Cousins beat the Birds through the air.

That kind of thing is what is known in the sports world as "bulletin board material." It's likely to get noticed - and posted - in your opponent's locker room as a source of motivation.

Of course, Cousins torched Brown and the Eagles Sunday, throwing for 333 yards and four touchdowns, including two bombs to Steffan Diggs.

After the game, Brown was not interested in talking about his earlier quote about Cousins.

"I'm here to talk about the game," Brown told assembled reporters. "Any other questions, besides Kirk Cousins?"

Monday night the Eagles released Brown.

Whether or not there is a connection between his comments and his release is not known.

A few hours later, Browns coach went on WIP and told the morning crew the Eagles were going to go to Dallas and were going to win the game.

But at his normal Monday mid-day press conference, Pederson said he was not guaranteeing a win, but merely showing confidence in his team.

Yep, words matter.
