What was wrong with Sunday's Daily Times

I have a major problem with Sunday's Daily Times.

And I wonder just how many other people noticed it.

In our lead story, we reflected on another bit of history that was achieved in last week's momentous blue wave that rolled over Delaware County. Voters not only elected three more Democrats to Delaware County Council - thus turning the Delco political world upside down with a 5-0 Dem majority - they also scored a couple of massive first for women and minorities.

Dr. Monica Taylor became the first African-American elected to the county's ruling body.

Nusrat Rashid became the first African-American woman elected to the Delco bench.

And she is the first Muslim elected as a judge in Pennsylvania history.

Pretty impressive stuff, no?

So, what's the problem.

Well, take another look at the front page.

Under a lead headline of 'TRAILBLAZERS,' it notes both of these historic firsts.

But it in fact says Trailblazers, as in plural, more than one.

So why is there only the single photo of Monica Taylor gracing the front page.

It's the same question I was asking when I glanced at the paper Sunday morning.

Suffice it say this is not the way I designed that page.

Under Trailblazers, I imagined pictures of both Taylor and Rashid.

There are a lot of things that have changed in the newspaper business. Amid downsizing and cost-cutting, things can slip through the cracks.

We no longer build the pages to the newspaper here on-site every day.

I designed the page and put it into the system, but was not on Saturday night and did not get a chance to see the page before it went to press.

That's on me.

It should not have happened.

But it did.

And I want to offer an apology to Nusrat Rashid. We certainly were not trying to downplay your historic achievement.

We want to full note both of these historic firsts.

At least that was the plan.

Unfortunately, it did not work out that way.
